Case study: Lang Craigs

Lang Craigs SSSI

Lang Craigs SSSI, north of Dumbarton, has recently been purchased by the Woodlands Trust. The basalt cliffs offer spectacular views up and down the Clyde estuary, with Dumbarton Rock a prominent feature. Below the Craigs, there is an unusually accessible example of an extensive post-glacial landslip. The Trust is developing a project to create new native woodland below the cliffs and to engage the local community and schools in tree-planting events. Following consultation with Strathclyde Geoconservation Group, corridors will be left free of trees to give the public clear views of the geology of the area.
